Exploring Paris's various chocolate options, I fell upon Jean-Charles Rochoux, Chocolatier, on rue de Rennes in the 6th.
Rochoux has very elegant packaging, as you can see here. I bought a bar of dark chocolate with hazelnuts (the silvery wrapping) and a box of hand-made individual chocolates chosen out of the case. Sad to say, I have already devoured the bar. Yummy and done.
I am now salivating over the little box. I must finish everything before leaving Friday--cannot pack chocolates, they'll just get broken or melted--and so must force myself to enjoy them, one by one, as they come. So sad!
This is one of the delights of Paris living: not only are the various things one can buy beautiful and beautifully made, but they are also usually delightfully presented, wrapped and packaged.
The store is very small but filled with delicious things. One of Rochoux's specialities is, I guess, detailed molded busts of chocolate. Above the counter there were a number of famous French people turned into chocolate heads. Given my love for Moliere I was pleased to see he had not only a small bust (4" tall) but was also--and only--featured as a 15" model. Wonderful... and kind of odd.
Sorry, have to go--I have an obligation to the chocolates.
