I love Orangina.
Only the French could come up with a fizzy drink that is (sort of) orange juice. I do not know exactly what Orangina is --not juice, not soda--but it is tasty. Yum.
That said, their ad campaign disturbs me. The ads picture animals in human-like attitudes enjoying a frosty Orangina. But the animals are, well, eroticized.
For example.
This picture is taken into the window of a local tabac in the 'burb. I probably should have gone inside to take it, but whatever.
The point is the ad shows a deer in pearl, a red bra-and-panties, and red pumps, in a sexy pose reminiscent of a Vargas, seated on a block of ice sipping an Orangina. What exactly is the sizzle being sold to us? The deer is, well, stacked and furry at the same time. The feet are in pumps but the hands are... hooves.
I am so confused.
But then I saw this one.
This one is one the side panel of a soda dispenser in a Métro station. This one is a zebra in a very sexy pink one-piece bathing suit and black pumps. There is a pink flower in her (?) mane, and the mane itself is black, white, and pink (a variation on the old joke). The pumps are shaped for hoof feet, and the "hands" are also hooves. The zebra is sliding the right strap off her (?) shoulder... suggesting an imminent strip-tease. Again the block of ice, bottle of Orangina.
Huh?
For those of you concerned about gender discrimination, here's a third one.
This is the same soda dispenser, just a different face of it. This time we see a bear--male--complete with strategically placed leaf.
Wait, here's the bear, closer.
Nice six-pack.
The bear is simultaneously winking at me and licking its lips. Is it sexy lil ol' me or the Orangina? I hardly know... but I am creeped out. And the placement of the ice block seems, well, wrong.
I just don't know. As much as I love Orangina, I don't really want to participate in the messages these ads seem to be sending me. Ick. I think I'll just ignore them and buy my Oranginas far away from these particular pictures... thanks.
Pearl
Orangina had a tv ad campaign with this motif. To see it, go to Youtube and search "orangina advert". I found it a bit shocking, but then I'm an American puritan. But it is hilarious too.
